The Goal of this Symposium

People of color, particularly African Americans continue to experience a wide range of health risk compared to others. The reasons for this health gap are many. However, knowing your risk and learning about behaviors to avoid can
improve your health and empower your life.

The goal of this symposium is to provide the community with the information and resources to help them Live Well. This will be accomplished through education and communication with healthcare experts. Learning to Live Well!

Adult Program

Good Food, Good Herbs,Good Living!
Presented by Wynne Brown, MD, FACOG, R.Ac.
This interactive workshop will give you an opportunity to ask questions about healthier food choices, how alternative medicine could help address health issues and ways to identify what you are willing to change to help get healthy.

Good Living Lets a Womanbe a Woman! (Women Only)

Explore how you can be the best woman you can be physically, mentally and spiritually. This workshop will take you on a journey to find that inner joy of life and have it manifest where you are right now.

Living Well to Preserve the Future!

This workshop will give you an understand-ing on the importance of eliminating health disparities in cancer, especially in the African American community here in the greater Pittsburgh region and the lack of suitable bone marrow donors in the African American community.

Let the Music Move You
Presented by Vera Hefflin-Edwards, Line Dance Instructor
This workshop will have you moving to the music doing line dancing (a choreographed dance with a repeated sequence of steps in which a group of people dance in one or more lines or rows) that is great fun for anyone and everyone. Check it out.

Peer Pressure: The Hand of the Teen
Presented by Journey to Medicine 9th Grade Students
This interactive workshop on the everyday life of a teenager will give you an insight on bullying, sex, drugs, stress and your appearance and how to cope with the pressure.
